P. A. Wray

P.A. Wray (Patti)  studied dramatic writing at Old Dominion University in 2001, and continues to learn the craft through workshops, self-study and participation in Virginia Playwrights Forum (VPF), a group she helped form in 2000. In 2007, Wray and her investment partner opened a storefront performing arts space in Norfolk to help foster the fledging writers group. This space, known as The Venue on 35th, in addition to being the home of the Forum, became popular with a variety of artists. In 2016 Wray stepped down from being the executive producer at The Venue to focus on her writing. She also, through VPF, is currently working with Wayne Theatre to bring dramatic works for the stage to the Wayne, with emphasis on new works by Virginia playwrights.

  • A Slippery Slope

    $6.95$30.00

A middle-school teacher is in a war zone between two students when both their reports turn out to be about the Layson Albatross. Does she side with Davy whose report says that Layson couples raising their chicks are sometimes both female? Or does she come to Beth's defense when Beth wants to silence Davy's report as "fake news."

  • This one-act, two character play opens during the pre-dawn hours of November 5, 1831. It is the day that Nat Turner, leader of a bloody slave rebellion, will be tried, convicted and sentenced to death. In the predawn hours before the trial a mysterious woman enters to purify the courtroom. Seven days later she is there by the hanging tree when Turner is executed and thrown into the darkness of death - where he fears he has been eternally abandoned.
  • Nat’s Last Struggle

    $11.97$45.00
A one-man play by P. A. Wray.   Nat Turner confronts his conscience in the afterlife. Nathanial “Nat” Turner (1800-1831) was an American slave who brought about the only direct, continuous slave rebellion (August 1831) in U. S. history. Some regard him as a monster, others as a hero in search of freedom. Which was he? Great for high school, college, community theater, and readers theater.
