Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda & Robert P. Arthur
Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda served as Poet Laureate of Virginia from 2006-2008. She holds a B.A. from the University of Mary Washington and M.Ed., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from George Mason University, where she received the university’s first doctorate, an Outstanding Academic Achievement and Service Award, and a Letter of Recognition for Quality Research from the Virginia Educational Research Association for her dissertation, Gathering Light: A Poet’s Approach to Poetry Analysis. In 2007 both universities gave her the Alumna of the Year Award.
After four terms of office, Robert P. Arthur retired as President Emeritus of the Poetry Society of Virginia in May 2019, having previously retired from the Graduate Creative Writing Program at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania, where he was a Writer in Low Residence in Poetry and Drama. Arthur has published twenty books of poetry, plays in poetry and poem/plays. He has twice been a finalist for Poet Laureate of Virginia, and his plays and poetry have been produced nationally and internationally.
